Eguren Ugarte is a family-run winery founded in 1870 and located in Laguardia, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, one of the most prestigious wine-growing regions in Rioja.

Our History

Our winery combines a deep-rooted tradition with a forward-looking vision.

Known for its iconic, hand-carved underground cellars that extend for over 2,000 meters, Eguren Ugarte embodies the philosophy of signature wines: wines that reflect both the winemaker’s personality and the character of the land.

The winery’s modern identity was driven by Victorino Eguren, a fifth-generation winemaker, who, along with his wife Mercedes Cendoya, pioneered one of the first wine tourism projects in Rioja.

With 21 hotel rooms nestled in a unique setting, surrounded by vineyards, mountains, oak barrels, and the vibrant atmosphere of winemaking, Eguren Ugarte offers the perfect backdrop for experiencing wine at its finest.

All of this allows us to share our passion for wine with our guests: from the meticulous care of the vineyard to the art of winemaking, always with the utmost respect for how our wines are presented and enjoyed.

Our Vineyard

A unique microclimate—where Mediterranean and Atlantic influences converge—along with the natural protection of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains, has made this land an ideal place for cultivating high-quality grapes for thousands of years.

At Eguren Ugarte, we consider ourselves winegrowers first and foremost. Above all, we listen to the land.

We own over 93 hectares of vineyards, giving us in-depth knowledge of the clay-limestone soils that define the character of Rioja Alavesa.

This comprehensive vineyard management allows us to practice precise viticulture and meticulous harvesting, guaranteeing consistent quality and optimal phenolic ripeness in every vintage.
